Intro Post Assignment

So you’re poking around on the internet and exploring different websites. You get to a boring page full of black text on a blank white background. You click on a link that seems more exciting and all of a sudden your screen is full of pop ups. It seems like there is no place on the world wide web helping you fulfill your thirst for knowledge!

Look no further; you’ve stumbled into the right place. Our motto is that we “Inform, Intrigue, and Inspire!” We host a welcoming environment by making it open to all different kinds of dialogue and discussion. We want your thoughts as well! Our posts are primarily directed towards a high school to college age audience, but we don’t exclude any groups and we love to hear all perspectives. We pride ourselves on our different backgrounds, and this blog is a common thread to discuss all of the varied topics that we are interested in. Thanks to the diversity of our backgrounds, we can offer a wide range of knowledge that pertains to many interesting topics from food to culture to current scientific information. So buckle your seat-belts and join us on our ride through our freshmen year at Carolina as we explore new and exciting things!

My name is Kathleen Gildea. Originally from the suburb streets of Raleigh, North Carolina, I am currently a freshman at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My academic interests lie in the English language, psychology (my intended major), and ancient history. Outside the world of academics, I like to read historical romance novels, watch movies, and play Munchkin with a cool group of people. I’m a pretty laid back person in that I like to relax and have chill time, but I am extremely dedicated to my education. I also try to be active in community service and volunteer work.

I’m Galen Burns-Fulkerson and I’m a Tar Heel, born and raised. I love Chapel Hill and am proud to call it my home-base, as I continue to return to it even after various forays into different states and countries. I love traveling, music, dancing, food, languages, nature, exploring, and most of all, learning. I’m happiest when I’m helping others or trying something for the first time. A few of my goals include getting a degree in Global Studies, going to med school, and traveling the world. After living in Chapel Hill for my whole life, I can’t wait to see and appreciate it from a new perspective. This year, I am excited to dive deeper into my current passions, as well as find new interests.

My name is Quiara Shade, and I was born in the small town of Hickory, North Carolina. As a child, I would always find ways to express my creativity—through writing, drawing, music, crafts—and as a college freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill intending to major in psychology, I want to continue to look for ways to explore the limits of my imagination and expand my knowledge about life. I find happiness in helping others, and I take pride in my ability to find hope in the worst of situations. I am just a girl with big dreams and high expectations; I know what I want out of life and I am dedicated to reaching success in my future.

My name is Ying Lin. From the city of Winston Salem, North Carolina, I am now a college freshman at UNC Chapel Hill! I love building relationships with people and discovering life. As a new blogger, I would like to establish myself as a reliable and relatable source. I am fascinated by the fast pace and new mindset of this society. I am interested in the effects of our culture through recent science discoveries. My wish is for this blog to be interacting and exciting. My goal is for the posts to be memorable. I hope they can be shared and discussed in everyday situations. It will be the new way to learn and get involved in current events!

Hey y’all! My name is Hannah Sandy and I am a freshman at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I was born in Raleigh, NC and moved to the small town of Washington, NC when I was 5 years old where I have been ever since! Washington is on a river and we have a little house on the beach. Needless to say, I love the water and doing all things outdoors. I have been extremely interested in different forms of writing all of my life and I am excited to delve into the exciting world of blogging! I love playing sports, participating in clubs, philanthropy, and academics. I love bright colors, bold words and statements, the outdoors, fashion, food, science, and everything in between. I pride myself in being relatable yet very knowledgeable and informative on different topics; especially events that are very current and up to date. Since I am currently a Chemistry major, I enjoy relaying new ground-breaking findings to help people relate in ways that rope them in and seem more appealing than reading a Biology 101 textbook.
